Receive the Gift of Today

I’m still working on the regularly scheduled weekly inspirational article but here is a little encouragement while you wait.

Do you know that you have received one of the best gifts today?  If you woke up this morning and you were able to see, hear, walk, talk, touch, taste and think, you received a precious gift.  Today, let the light of Jesus shine through you for others to see.   That light may be the only encouragement they receive today.   God Bless!

Is There Something in My Eye? By Tammy Glover

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?”  Matthew 7:3-4

It’s confession time.  Now, this is going to sting a bit but just bear with me.  I’m going to take a deep breath and please feel free to do the same before you read on.  Now, exhale.

It all started last week.  Someone that I consider a good friend said something to me that I took offense to.  I thought that it was hurtful and thoughtless.  The person was completely clueless as to how upset I was too.  I let it go for the moment and kept it safely hidden away in my mind.  Later, as I was in prayer, the memory of what was said earlier popped into my mind.  The enemy likes to use those things that we think we have hidden to distract us.  This eventually led to other memories of hurtful things other people said. 

I was thoroughly into a tirade of self-righteous indignation when the Lord stopped me.  He calmly and gently said, ” I hear you daughter but have you noticed that big two by four in your eye?”


He continued on by saying, “do you know how many times you’ve said something stupid and no one called you out?  Do you know how many times your words have hurt someone?  Do you know how many times other people have shown you mercy and still love you even in spite of yourself?  Do you know how many times I have shown you mercy?  Beloved, you need to love and show mercy to others, just as I have shown you love and mercy. ” 

“Double ouch!” 

It’s time to get the planks out of my eye.  What about you?

“If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  Each one should test his own actions.  Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.” Galatians 6:3-5

“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Matthew 7:2

Stop Leaning on Your Own Understanding. by Tammy Glover

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.   In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight.”  Proverbs 3:5 

Are you looking at a pile of bills, and trying to figure out how they are going to get paid from a bank account that’s at zero?  No matter how you do the math, zero from zero still equals zero.  Stop leaning on your own understanding, you’re about to fall.  The Lord says that He will provide all your needs.  One of the many names of God is Yahweh Yireh which is Hebrew for, the Lord sees or provides.   You may also recognize it as Jehovah Jireh.  Now, call on Him. 

Have you been sick and the doctors can’t figure out what’s wrong with you?  They’ve given you medicine that only makes you feel worse and you don’t know if you’re going to make it.  Stop leaning on your own understanding.  The Lord says that by his stripes we are healed.  He also says that he heals all our diseases. Believe in his word.  “Your faith has healed you.”   Matthew 9:22Are you looking for a job or a promotion?  You can see the open doors in the distance but when you get to them, they slam shut in your face.  You’re starting to think that maybe you’re destined to remain in a mediocre position.  Stop leaning on your own understanding and trust in the Lord.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11Are you wondering if you will ever find that husband or wife, or if you’ll ever be blessed with children?  You’re starting to doubt that it may be something meant for you.  Stop leaning on your own understanding.  It says in God’s word, “delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:

Trust in the Lord.  In Him there is truth, wisdom, light, healing, protection and abundance.  These things are available to every single believer.  Sometimes, we forget but today, let us be reminded.  God loves you and wants to bless you. 

“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.   And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19. 


Are You Ready to Rumble? By Tammy Glover

“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.  For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15

You open your eyes, turn over and look at the clock.  It’s 7:30 and you realize that it’s Monday.  You should have been up at 6:30 but you forgot to set your alarm clock.  You give yourself a mental slap upside the head and drag yourself  out of bed.  The battle has begun.

As you run around the house like a maniac to get ready for work, you stump your toe and spill your coffee on your shirt.  Unable to contain yourself, you let out a few expletives.  Round one of the fight is over and it’s not looking so good for you.

You make it to work, but you forgot your cell phone and your lunch on the kitchen counter.  Money is low, so lunch is a Mountain Dew and a Snickers.  Everyone needs your help and every project has been moved up to the top of the priority list.  Your head hurts and your stomach is yelling at you.  Round two is almost over and you’re already mentally cursing out and beating everyone who looks at you.  You can’t go down like this.  It’s time to fight back.  What are you doing just sitting there?

Round three is here, what’s your plan?  It’s time to put on your armor.  “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:11.  It’s on, now.  You have your belt of truth, your breastplate of righteousness, your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, your shield of faith and your helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit.  (Ephesians 6:14-18)  For the final knockout, you hit him hard with praise.

Victory is yours today, tomorrow and forever because you have God’s army backing you up.  You are more than a conqueror.  Receive your blessing today.
